  I recently moved into the area and brought my daughter in for a meet and greet and checkup. This is an older, but well-maintained practice with colorful amenities for kids (swag bags, toy vending machines). And the greatest asset of this office is the fast and friendly work of the nearly all-female staff. After the assistant gave an efficient workup, Dr Lopez arrived and noted that my daughter should have 3 of her healthy baby teeth extracted (a preemptive procedure for crowding). This seemed like a major procedure, but I was open to professional opinion. My impression only became more skeptical because Dr. Lopez, who has been practicing for decades, seemed focused on expounding on his expertise in a variety of matters rather than addressing my pointed questions. This was not an unpleasant interaction---just dismissive, and uninformative. Follow-up inquires with staff were vaguely deferred. Fortunately, my new sister-in-law is a dentist in Florida. I had my daughter's x-rays sent to her, and she then passed them on to her colleague, a well-regarded pediatric orthodontists in South Florida. Both strongly advised against extraction noting that it would have been a distressing and ultimately contra-indicated procedure. I know that I was fortunate to have the luxury of quality 2nd and 3rd opinions, and that not every parent does. But I would recommend that dental service is a choice, and if you need more information from your dentist, advocate for it until you are comfortable.
